Magnolia hypoleuca

A handsome upright small tree with purple tinged young shoots. Very large oval leaves in whorls at the end of shoots. Very strongly fragrant creamy white flowers with a central ring of crimson stamens. Flowers May-Jun. Ht 12ft. Protect from strong winds. Fertile loamy soil, sun or part shade.
