Then why not join our team of volunteers at Larch Cottage Nurseries!

Become a part of our volunteering team, and give back to nature while enjoying the camaraderie of like-minded individuals. No prior experience is necessary, just a passion for gardening and nature. Whether you’re seeking gardening guidance or simply looking to connect with fellow enthusiasts, you’re welcome to join us.

HOW IT WORKS:

We meet twice a month.
Our day typically runs from 9:30 am to 4/4:30 pm, beginning with refreshments and a general catch up.
Volunteers may work in pairs on various tasks within the nursery, rotating to ensure everyone gains experience across different areas. On occasion the group may work collectively on specific projects.
Sessions may include short “Masterclasses” led by staff, covering topics such as seed sowing, propagation, and construction, providing volunteers with valuable skills for their own gardens and enhancing their experience at Larch Cottage.
Lunch is provided! As well as a chance to discuss the morning’s activities.
Half an hour before the end of each day, we regroup to reflect on highlights, challenges, and make a plan for the next session.

“Hi, I volunteer one day a week at Larch Cottage. In 2023, nine months into taking early retirement from a predominantly office-based job, my wife gave me a ‘gentle nudge’ to respond to a Facebook post seeking volunteers at Larch Cottage. An informal chat with Peter and Jo, the owners, and here I still am, absolutely loving it, ‘come rain or shine!’

Working with the team at Larch Cottage has certainly taught me a few things I have used back in my own garden, and hopefully I have added the odd snippet of my own ‘home gardening’ experience to them. It’s a wonderful place to be, particularly on a spring morning when customers are still in bed. Walking round the nursery and seeing plants come to life – there’s nothing better. You don’t need to be a Monty Don, just enjoy the outside world and meeting great people”.
