Also known as Japanese forest grass. A distinctive grass of the genus Hakonechloa for use throughout the garden. Its flowers are insignificant, but its lax, overhanging leaves are of a lustrous pale green that spread to form uniform mats of foliage, which flush orange in the autumn. Sprd to 30–45 cm (12-18 in). Sun/ part shade, it prefers good soil that does not dry out.
