Cercis canadensis ‘Merlot’

A canadensis x texensis cross with glossy, small rounded dark purple leaves and upright vase shaped growth habit. It has a tighter, denser habit than Cercis “Forest Pansy” and is more heat tolerant and drought tolerant. Leaves of ‘Merlot’ are smaller, thicker, and glossier than those of ‘Forest Pansy’. Strong bright pink flowers are produced on mature plants. Ht and spr 10-12ft. Full sun, well drained soil. Best grown in sheltered position in colder localities.
