Betula nana Golden Treasure is a unique variety of dwarf birch grown for its striking foliage colour. Small rounded leaves are held along thin, wiry stems. They emerge stunning yellow, with very fine veins in the spring, developing into shades of orange and reddish gold in the summer, before turning vivid red in autumn. The dwarf birch is a slow growing, spherical deciduous shrub that retains its characteristically compact shape as it matures. This dwarf birch has the hallmark white, often papery bark. Ht and spr 100cm (3ft). Commonly named the ‘Arctic Birch’ it is very hardy being tolerant of extreme cold. Best planted in moist, fertile well-drained soil, birches in general can tolerate poorer soils. Suitable for hedges, tolerates shaping or shearing. It prefers full sun, or lightly dappled shade.
