Acer shirasawanum ‘Johin’. A rare and distinct variety. Deeply divided leaves with nine long, pointed lobes curling slightly under similar to Trompenberg. Deep red with a pronounced green vein in spring changing to rich brick red through summer. Showy red seeds. Orange and red autumn colour. Short internodes allow each leaf to lay on top of another creating a beautiful flowing effect. The name means ‘Elegant’. Ht 4-6ft. Slow growing, needs protection from afternoon sun, excellent for colder climates. Acid to neutral, well drained soil.
