Margaret Brampton has over 40 years’ experience as a potter and her remarkable skills have developed over this time to produce work of a most distinctive style which is instantly recognisable.
Margaret’s work is thrown red terracotta slipware, which is traditional in its techniques and processes but incorporates original themes in the design. Flora and fauna are Margaret’s main inspiration for the decoration which is applied, after much sketchbook preparation, with meticulous sgraffito drawing – undertaken with the expertise of a botanical artist.
Modern song lyrics surround bowls, and the finish is completed with coloured oxides and underglaze colours. The finished pots glisten flawlessly with a clear pale honey glaze and would look wonderful in any home.
Margaret says, ‘Each bowl takes me a day to decorate. I have been making these for many years so it surprises me that it hasn’t got any quicker’. Margaret works from her home studio in Wales.
