Myer Halliday is a Scottish designer–maker based in the Croatian highlands. A graduate of the Glasgow School of Art, she was among the last cohort of ceramics students before the programme’s hiatus. She went on to establish and run a successful wholesale ceramics business, with clients across Japan, the United States, and the United Kingdom.
Her early career focused on designing functional ceramics for the international wholesale market, balancing aesthetic clarity with commercial viability. Now working independently in a more rural setting, her practice has shifted toward a more exploratory and expressive approach, shaped by her environment and a renewed focus on process.
Halliday primarily works with a “porcelain white” stoneware, using slips and underglaze stains to achieve strong, vibrant colour. Recent developments in her work include the use of brushed and poured slips, extending her earlier, more controlled approach to line and mark-making. A consistent thread throughout her practice is a sensitivity to colour, alongside a careful balance of rhythm, gesture, and surface.

Artist Statement:
“I love drawing and use unglazed porcelain, or porcelain-slipped stoneware, as a way of capturing this. The movement of line and the interaction of colour remain at the heart of my work.”
