Alison Macleod

Alison Macleod is a jewellery designer whose work is inspired by antique treasures and the stories they hold. Rooted in the tradition of heirloom objects, her pieces explore themes of memory, sentiment, and the quiet significance of personal adornment.

Her interest in jewellery began in childhood, shaped by early encounters with inherited pieces and a fascination with their unseen histories. This sense of narrative continues to inform her practice, resulting in work that feels both intimate and enduring.

Each piece is designed by Alison and handmade in the UK to a high standard of craftsmanship. Combining a sensitivity to historical forms with a contemporary aesthetic, her jewellery is intended to be worn, valued, and passed on.

A strong ethical focus underpins her work. Alison uses Fairtrade Gold, supporting more transparent supply chains and responsible mining practices that prioritise both people and the environment.

Artist Statement:

I make jewellery inspired by antique treasures and the stories they tell—heirlooms passed through generations, gathering meaning over time.

I have strong memories of discovering my mother’s jewellery box as a child, trying on each piece and imagining the histories behind them. That sense of curiosity and narrative continues to shape my work.

I aim to maintain a sense of quality and fairness throughout my practice, ensuring my work has no hidden detriment to others or cost to the environment. Each piece is designed and handmade in the UK, with a focus on craftsmanship and longevity.

I work with Fairtrade Gold to support more ethical and traceable practices within the jewellery industry. This reflects my belief that the value of an object should extend beyond its appearance, to include how and where it is made.
