A common native tree across Europe, the Broad or Large leaved lime tree (or linden tree) is often planted in parks or the edges of gardens for shade. It has a modest growth rate, responds well to regular pruning, is pollution tolerant and can reach a height of up to 40 metres. These qualities make it a useful tree for city councils to plant and maintain. It flowers in early summer, before most other limes, and is great for beekeepers.
