Dark leaved willow. Native to parts of Europe including the United Kingdom, Salix myrsinifolia is grown primarily for its large dark green leaves and shining, ebony coloured, bare stems which are visible throughout the winter. These winter stems are especially ornamental if this plant is pruned back hard annually in spring. In spring attractive catkins with golden anthers appear on the branches. Ht upto 13ft or 6ft if coppiced annually. Lovely when planted in groups next to ponds or streams.
