Salix hylematica

A dwarf, creeping willow, that grows close to the ground in a mat-forming habit. It is known for its red prostrate stems, small glossy green leaves, and striking red catkins in early spring, making it a popular ground cover for rock gardens and damp spots. Native to northern Asia and the Himalayas. Ht 3-5cm. Sun/part shade. Moist but well-drained, humus-rich soil. It thrives in damp spots but can also tolerate average to dry soil conditions.
