Pleione tongariro

A rich pink Orchid, speckled with red-orange markings. Their finely fringed edges simply add to their unusual, exotic appearance. The bright flowers grow on short stems to a dwarf height of just 10-15cm, making Tongariro a vibrant addition to patio pots and rockeries. Native to China, India, Myanmar and Taiwan. Flowers April-May. Humus-rich, light, aired soil with grit. The bulbs should not be buried totally but planted so that a third of their size protrudes from the compost. Winter protection needed in coldest localities. Sun/ part shade.
