First recorded in 1862, it is still one of the best cooking apples. Easy to grow, large green apples cooks to a sharp fluffy puree. Compact tree. Good pollinator for Bramley. Heavy cropper, ripening its first fruit in August, and keeping well for 2-3 months. A very hardy tree, with good resistance to scab. Self fertile, but bears a heavier crop if there is another pollinator nearby. AGM. Rootstock=M26. Semi-dwarf. Height 3-3.5metres (10-12ft).
