Sourdust pottery was started by John in 1991, at the age of 19. His Naked Raku pieces are unglazed and is an organic method working with ‘naked’ clay. It works with the elements of fire, water, air and earth in the form of clay.
The markings on the pieces are the smoke infused in itself, which gives an unpredictable and unique finish – no results are ever the same. Copper Matt Raku is a complicated technique, with the process needing to be tweaked and adjusted. By exposing the pieces to oxygen – ‘burping’- the northern light colour effect dances across the hot surface.
