ALISTAIR BROOKES
After leaving Sheffield City Teacher Training College in 1959, Alistair taught in a comprehensive school and obtained an Art Teacher Diploma in Art Education at Cardiff University. During the 70s he established a studio pottery in Teesdale, depicting life and times in the Dales through a series of figurative work in earthenware and stoneware.
Alistair says, ‘Clay artefacts are embedded in all our cultures and continue to endure the ravages of time.Contributing in some small way I try to depict life and times in the Dales. Raku pottery is my preferred method of working as it seems to breathe some kind of life into the clay. It is all serendipity but then that’s half the fun of it.’
