It is with true sadness that we announce the death of our friend and artist James Walsh, who passed away peacefully at the age of 85 in his home town of Southport.
Jim only stopped painting quite recently, and over the years, his pictures have often been the principal art work on the walls of the Red Barn Gallery, their distinctive style causing many to stop in their tracks and admire or debate.
His fresco in the Chapel at Larch Cottage was his biggest collaboration, commissioned by Peter and his wife Jo, who were married there in 2014.
Martin, his son says ‘the mural, which was completed over three summers in 2014-2016 features many of the components of Jim’s mature style, in turns irreverent and enigmatic, bold in composition and colour, and not afraid to challenge the viewer with its own mixture of styles’
Jim was a gentle, genuine and modest person loved by all who met him, Peter says, we will miss him very much and send our condolences to all his family and friends.
