A loose, upright, graceful shrub growing 10ft by 8ft. Gracilipes has larger leaves and flower panicles than the species. Leaves are glossy green with a distinct reddish pedicel and central vein on the underside. The fragrant flowers appear in early June and are pinkish in bud, opening white with a pink tinge. They are held in open panicles. Fruits appear green changing to red then black. Native to Sri Lanka, India, Himalayas, northern Burma, and China. Sheltered site. Sun or part shade.
