Escape into the world of mixed-media textiles and learn how to paint with wool!

Join Deborah for an immersive, full-day creative experience where you will bring the iconic scenery of Buttermere, Lake District, to life. Whether you are a complete beginner or an experienced artist looking to refine your textile skills, this hands-on needle felting workshop will guide you step-by-step through the captivating process of wool landscaping.

What You Will Learn

During this full-day textile art course, you’ll discover how to treat unspun wool fibres like paint to build depth, texture, and light in your artwork:

Fibre & Tool Fundamentals: Understand different wools, felting needles, and backing fabrics suitable for 2D needle felting.

Composition & Atmospheric Perspective: Learn how to translate the dramatic mountain peaks, serene waters, and vibrant shorelines of Buttermere into a textile composition.

Blending & Layering Techniques: Master fibre blending to capture soft skies, reflection on water, and shifting mountain light.

Detailing & Texture Work: Add fine lines, foreground elements, and textural accents using specialist felting needles and mixed-media fibers.


Expert Step-by-Step Guidance: Small group sizes ensure plenty of personalised 1-on-1 instruction throughout the day.

Take Home a Finished Piece: Leave with a beautifully ready-to-frame needle felted Lake District landscape created entirely by you.

 The Day’s Itinerary

 The Morning (10:00 AM – 12:30 PM): Learning the Elements

We will start by mastering the fundamentals of needle felting. You’ll learn exactly which needles to use, how to effortlessly blend wool fibers, and the secrets to composition using light and shade. After a little practice, we will begin laying down our background elements to establish our landscape.

 Lunch Break (12:30 PM – 1:15 PM):

Time to rest your hands, chat with fellow crafters and enjoy a delicious 2 course lunch in La Casa Verde

 The Afternoon (1:30 PM – 4:00 PM): Fine Details & Shading

With our foundations set, the afternoon is all about adding depth, dramatic shading, and those intricate final details that make your textile piece truly pop.

Join Debs from Meadow Stream Arts for an immersive, full-day creative experience in La Casa Verde, where you will bring a charming, expressive robin to life in wool. Whether you are a complete beginner or an experienced artist looking to refine your craft, this hands-on 2D needle felting workshop will guide you step-by-step through the captivating process of wool landscaping and bird portraiture. Ideal as a gift for Christmas or a treat for yourself.

What You Will Learn in This Wool Painting Class

During this full-day textile art course, you’ll discover how to treat unspun wool fibres like paint to capture the personality, soft plumage, and lively presence of Britain’s favourite garden bird:

Fibre & Tool Fundamentals: Understand different wool types, felting needles, and backing fabrics ideal for detailed 2D needle felting.

Proportions & Eye Realism: Learn how to transfer the “Robin’s Gaze” design onto backing felt and build depth in the eyes to create a striking, lifelike expression.

Feather Blending & Layering: Master fibre layering to mimic soft, downy chest feathers, sleek wing structure, and iconic redbreast tones.

Detailing & Texture Work: Use specialist needles and mixed-media fibres to add fine accents, sharp beak highlights, and a soft, complementary background.

The Day’s Itinerary

We will start by mastering the fundamentals of needle felting. You’ll learn which needles to use, how to blend wool fibres seamlessly, and how to transfer your outline onto backing felt. We’ll begin by building up the soft background tones and laying down the base structure of our robin.

Lunch Break (12:30 PM – 1:15 PM)

Time to rest your hands and chat with fellow crafters and enjoy a delicious 2 course lunch in La Casa Verde

The Afternoon (1:30 PM – 4:00 PM): Feathers, Eyes & Fine Detail

With our foundations set, the afternoon focuses on bringing your robin to life! We’ll layer rich red and earthy tones for the feathers, capture that signature glint in the eye, and add delicate highlights for a truly captivating finish.

What’s Included…

Tea or coffee and a small mince pie on arrival

Delicious 2 course Lunch in La Casa Verde

A comprehensive, premium take-home package so you can keep creating long after the class finishes:

 All materials used on the day, including the embroidery hoop tops

Here at Larch Cottage, we grow a variety of hardy, rare, and unusual plants, most of which are grown on site. These are available to purchase year-round from our Nursery, and available online (via our Mail Order Service) from September to the end of June.
