Mary Johnson Makes Slip decorated red earthenware vessels with painted, glazed and sgraffito images. What makes this work stand out is the imagery used directly from Mary’s sketches in her garden and allotment. Thrown pots are enhanced with broad strokes of the brush and brought to life with inquisitive insects and leaves.
Mary says: ‘These pots celebrate decayed roofing felt, earwigs and rusting wheelbarrows. Without them life would be infinitely dull and sterile’.
