Mridula Basi

Mridula Basi is an artist working across painting and drawing, creating figurative works in a range of media. Based on a smallholding in South Lanarkshire, her practice reflects a sensitivity to both subject and environment.

Born and raised in India in the early 1970s, Basi studied Fine Art at the Delhi College of Art before relocating to Scotland in 1996. Her work draws on this dual experience, combining careful observation with an intuitive, process-led approach to image-making.

Working primarily in oils alongside other media, Basi creates compositions that explore presence, atmosphere, and the subtle relationship between figure and setting. Her paintings often reflect both the human form and the shifting moods of the Scottish landscape.
