BISTRO MANAGER

40 hours per week – Daytime only

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Bistro Manager who has the aptitude and charisma to be responsible for the overall dining experience of our new food concept, operating 7 days a week and catering for up to 100 covers.
As Bistro Manager, you will be the face of the operation, generating a strong rapport with guests and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. You will motivate an attentive team who will be on hand to make sure the customers every need is met. Outside service hours, you will take responsibility for the usual catering management duties as well as working with the owners to achieve our high expectations. With excellent attention to detail, the ideal candidate will have successfully operated in a similarly high volume, high quality establishment. You will have a hands-on approach to the job and see hospitality as a career that suits your lifestyle.

NURSERY MANAGER

What the job involves:
To produce and supply our retail site and mail order department with plants of the highest quality

* Supervising and assisting in all stages of plant production
*Managing pest, disease and weed control programmes, commensurate with hygiene and health standards
*Supplying plants for retail site/mail order in line with season and market demand
*Identifying technical and business problems, investigating the causes and formulating solutions
*Planning and organizing
*Introducing new varieties
*Communicating effectively with work colleagues and management
*Training and instructing others and helping them to develop their professional skills and experience
*Performing essential administration, spraying records etc

Salary and conditions:
*Starting salary circa. £20000
*Working hours are normally 40 hours per week, 8 am until 5 m with two half hour breaks during the day. Hours may vary during with the seasons. Flexibility is essential at peak times, such as before Bank Holidays and during dry spells. High standards of quality and control are demanded.
Entry requirements :
* NVQ level 3 in Amenity Horticulture or higher, and/ or proven experience within the nursery/ growing sector.
*Practical experience is essential.
In addition to the practical skills of cultivation, candidates will need to show evidence of the following:
*A strong interest in the industry and, a knowledge of plants
*A working knowledge of latin
*IT skills
*Technical competence, business and good communication/ people skills
*Excellent organisational and planning skills
*Project management and problem solving ability
A full driving licence can be useful and applicants should be physically fit and able to work in physically demanding environments. Fluency in a foreign language can be an advantage.

CHEF/COOK

Daytime hours, straight shifts, continental bistro style food
We are looking for a ‘team player’ with a can-do attitude to lead the team! Someone with proven kitchen experience and a passion for good food. We are a continental bistro style restaurant in a unique setting which could be more Umbria than Cumbria!
We are open daily from 10am until 5pm serving lunch between 12 and 3pm
You must be passionate about quality food, fresh ingredients and delivering outstanding menus. Everything is freshly prepared on site daily, from scones and breads to cakes and main dishes. Although we do not serve meat the menu does incorporate 'fish'. Our menu is inspired by Italian and continental cuisine to offer intense flavour from simple and fresh ingredients.  We have an organic vegetable garden on site and try to produce as much as possible to serve the restaurant during the summer months.
We are a family run business and offer a unique, quality day out for all with nursery, gardens, restaurant and shop on site. The business has been built up over 32 years and continues to grow organically year on year. A truly inspiring place!
Ideally the applicant will possess the following skills, experience or attributes: -
•    Must be a team player as well as a leader! Everyone is important within a team!
•    Menu Development
•    Be motivated and passionate about preparing food and delivering fantastic cuisine using seasonal produce where possible.
•    Be familiar with the ‘Safer Food, Better Business’ paperwork.
•    Relish working in busy / fast paced environments and achieving deadlines.
•    Be adaptable and innovative.
•    Responsible for ordering and liaising with suppliers for best prices
•    Have the ability to work logically and methodically without the need for close supervision.
•    Be flexible to help out in all areas of the restaurant if need be
•    Be responsible for menu costings, health and safety, hygiene, allergens etc
•    Manage and work closely with the rest of the team
•    Good understanding of MS Office
•    Health & Safety trained

Normal hours are 8am-5pm maybe longer during busy periods, 5 days per week out of seven including weekend work
Good rate of pay for suitable candidate
